Barbican Quartet awarded 1st prize at the 71st ARD International Quartet Competition in Germany

The Quartet takes home the prestigious 1st prize, as well as many special prizes, the prize for best interpretation of the commissioned work, and the Genuin Classics CD recording prize. A prize winners tour is also organized for the quartet by the Impressariat Simmenauer.

The jury was chaired by Clive Greensmith and comprised Anthea Kreston, Bjørg Lewis, Vera Martinez, John Myerscough, Jiří Pinkas and Oliver Wille.

Kate joins the Barbican Quartet

Kate joins the renowned Barbican Quartet as their new second violinist! The quartet, who has been performing together since 2015 is comprised of Amarins Wierdsma (violin), Christoph Slenczka (viola) and Yoanna Prodanova (cello). The quartet formed at the Guildhall School for Music and Drama in London, UK. They have received many prizes and awards, most notably 1st prize at the Joseph Joachim String Quartet Competition in 2019.

Kate is very excited to join this fantastic quartet!

Kate is the Artistic Director and leader of Re:Ensemble, an innovative and exciting string ensemble that is taking the world by storm.

Re:Ensemble boasts an all star cast, with many young, talented international artists in its collective. With a focus on works by marginalized composers and exciting collaborations with contemporary artists, Re:Ensemble is reinventing what a classical ensemble should look like.

 

Benedetti Foundation Ambassador

In summer 2021, Kate was invited to join the Benedetti Foundation’s team of Ambassadors. She attended training sessions with renowned pedagogues and musicians and is participating in workshops as a mentor with the Foundation, headed by star violinist, Nicola Benedetti.
